Looking to the Future:

These students say it all!

This is what a 21st Century School needs to create.

A Vision for LeNoir Elementary School:

An observer entering LeNoir Elementary School would see students using a wide variety of technology to demonstrate content mastery. Teachers utilize all available technology to create engaging lessons. Technology that is available changes regularly to keep pace with new developments. Teachers and administrators are able to utilize technology to have open dialogue with students, parents, and other community stakeholders. The environment supports teacher learning and sharing best practices while focusing on student achievement. Computer lab time is utilized for learning and perfecting technology use including basic programming such as Microsoft Suite and Web 2.0 tools. There is a set plan to expose students to new technologies and develop basic use skills. By fifth grade, students are prepared to select the appropriate technology for any project and execute its use without extended time to learn how to use the technology.

The Reality:

In the 2011-2012 school year, LeNoir was scored at the  proficiency levels stated below based on the STaR Chart Survey. Further information is from an independent survey conducted in March 2012:

  • Developing Technology in Educator Preparation and Development
    • 57% of surveyed teachers said they understood most available technologies and their uses
    • 28% of surveyed teachers said a checklist of available technology and webinars would be helpful
    • 83% of surveyed teachers requested SMART board training
  • Developing Technology in Leadership, Administration, and Instructional Support
    • 76% of surveyed teachers did not feel that they had adequate time and tools to assign projects requiring technology
    • 28% of survey teachers requested a curriculum for technology.
    • 33% of surveyed teachers requested bimonthly technology trainings during staff meetings
  • Advanced Technology in Teaching and Learning
    • 76% of students utilize technology more than 1-2 times each week.
    • 100% of students use online learning programs (WebAchiever/WebMechanics)
    • Less than 10% used technology for Web 2.0, word processing skills, or other technology based skills
  • Advanced Technology in Infrastructure for Technology
    • The infrastructure for technology on campus is enhanced and determined mainly be District wide decisions.

Goals for LeNoir Elementary School:

1. Increase proficiency level in Educator Preparation and Development to Target Tech by the 2015-2016 school year.

2. Increase proficiency level in Leadership, Administration, and Instructional Support to Target Tech by the 2015-2016 school year.

3. Increase proficiency level in Teaching and Learning to Target Tech by the 2015-2016 school year.

4. Maintain district pacing in Infrastructure for Technology.

Action Plan:

When I analyzed the results of the STaR chart survey and subsequent follow-up survey, I determined that a key area to focus on at LeNoir Elementary School is teacher professional development and students usage rates. The following plan targets these areas to increase LeNoir's overall rating to Target Tech by the 2015-2016 school year.
